  • This is a common thing in online discourse, and reviews. People aren’t usually going around posting “Yet another day of no issues with my computer”. There’s no emotional motivation there.

I’ll take a swing. I’ve had no issues with my Windows 10 desktop since I built it in 2020. None of the bloat, ads, forced updates, OneDrive pushing. None of the shit people regularly cite as problems inherent and unavoidable with Windows.

I did my research and used the proper official tools to configure it before and immediately after a fresh install. Used third party scripts and programs for messing with configuration shit as minimally as possible.

I’ve only had to adjust things maybe three times a year, and most of the time it’s been to re-enable shit that the average user would never disable like printing or hibernation, rather than having to fix or adjust anything from an update.

Or, to frame it a different way:

Modern work enviornments being what they are, as a worker you will be required to have some bare minimum soft skills in order to interact with co-workers and your boss in a manner that isn’t completely deranged.

Shitty questions like these, with an obvious difference between the blunt honest answer and the “workplace acceptable” answer, serve as quite possibly the lowest bar possible to measure your ability to cater your communication properly to an audience.

These stupid questions are a litmus test for whether you are capable of reasonably functioning socially in a work environment. Very few jobs exist where you never interact with others.

I’d rather not spend my 8 hours a day listening to someone rant constantly about UBI and hating the job. That only makes the grind worse and drag on longer, even when the complaining is on the mark.

Most of all: for as dumb as a lot of this song and dance is, very few people ask these questions because they want to. Most people in recruiting have experienced times where they skipped the stupid question, and ended up missing the red flag to not hire the person.

I’ll give you that, but it seems to me that you must not have been around for the surge of iPhone bootlegs earlier in the smartphone era.

Lock screen, default background, fonts, literal stolen icons (not just stupidly similar ones), Chrome labelled as Safari, etc.

Settings panel design and especially the icon are super minor.

Hell, what about new Samsungs disabling the App drawer by default and tossing all apps on the home screen?

  • Lol no. It’s a well documented design flaw/limitation with the cheaper analog stick design used in modern controllers, much like the design flaws in N64 joysticks that lead them to degrade over time.

These new joysticks work by two things (pretty sure it’s graphite pads) rubbing against each other directly. This results in increased wear and far earlier failure compared to the previously used hall effect design that used magnets to detect stick position, as that design has far fewer parts rubbing against each other.

For fucks sake, Nintendo even did a recall on joycons where you could send in busted ones and get them repaired for free. Do you really think they just willingly spent money doing that for something that was the consumer’s fault? Get the fuck out of here.

  • Maybe I’m too used to consoles and low powered computers, but with a VRR screen I don’t tend to notice slowdown until it hits 20fps.

Assuming this is anything like the previous games, this is a massive open world shooter/survival game that simulates events and npc/faction interactions map wide. There are loading zones, but each area is massive. And shit isn’t just sitting waiting for the player to appear, shit is happening in the world constantly.

I don’t really blame the devs for struggling on performance on a game like this with a multiplatform release on console hardware. Especially when this generation of consoles is getting long in the tooth. The previous games were PC first (if they ever got a console release at all, not sure they did).

If they release it in this state, yeah yuck. But being open about the process isn’t something to be derided.

  • The model hasn’t changed, but as development of new content has continued, 95% of new content is subscription only.

That said, I can’t speak for Runescape “proper” aka Runescape 3, the current “main” version. I’ve heard a lot of concerning things about all sorts of mobile game style predatory shit going on there.

I’ve only played Runescape 2, now called “Old School Runescape”, which is a fork of the game from (I think) 2006.

Essentially, right around that time they completely overhauled combat, stat progression, and a bunch of other stuff, and called it Runescape 3. A lot of people didn’t like the changes and started hosting custom servers from before the changes.

Eventually they made an official version, called it Old School Runescape, and have been developing it side by side with “normal” Runescape since.

Old School isn’t predatory in my opinion. Outside of occasional “leagues” on special servers with specific challenges applied, there’s no FOMO. The f2p game has plenty of content enjoyable on its own. The subscription just unlocks a mountain of more content, including alternative ways to level up through early game. Technically you can advance faster with a subscription, but that’s due to having more options to turn into an over optimized plan, not some shit exp multiplier or something.

  • But… your study doesn’t show that it is possible. It shows that even with the natural pressure of the owners to downplay the issues their pets were experiencing, they still had significant health problems.

Please don’t speak down to people when it is abundantly clear that you are ignoring critical sections of your own evidence that disagree with your desired outcome.

  • My man, this isn’t shaming. It’s someone politely pointing out that the entire world isn’t your personal soap box.

Want to speak out about how shit Ubisoft is? Go make your own thread. I’m being serious, Lemmy is overdue for some name and shame of horrendous game companies, and it’d be good to have some sort of megathread documenting their bullshittery here on the fediverse.

This also doesn’t really offer a different perspective on whether the game is enjoyable or not. Your justified distaste for Ubisoft is an entirely different topic to the question asked.
