Paying for a roof isn’t work. It’s not producing anything, transforming anything, or doing labor, and it takes no time. It takes 30 seconds to cut a check. And they’re using money I and other renters have paid them because we can’t afford a house, despite very much wanting to, because of how expensive housing is due to landlords buying up all the properties lol. You can tell it’s not a real job because a lot of landlords have full time other jobs. Or it’s why being a landlord is also a great way to get money for old people who can’t work and maybe haven’t saved for retirement nor have a pension.

I 100% agree that the problem is that housing is an investment. Real estate investors should not be buying homes to make a profit at the expense of available housing. I haven’t heard how the situation is in Germany, but that’s good. I heard Tokyo also does it right, where housing depreciates like a car, because they have so much.

My landlord doesn’t do that, they have a property manager that does that stuff. Ive never even seen my landlord. If the landlord does it, then they are not doing landlording, they are being a property manager and landlord, but they don’t necessarily have to, and one doesn’t require being the other.

I guess the big thing it does is make Biden and his administration look better and like they are doing something when they really aren’t. It gives people something to point to when protestors and activists ask for real change, and it dissipates energy from the movement. In that way, it would honestly be better if they did nothing than bad faith peace talks.

I am surprised other commenters are down on the show. I loved it. I think this is the way you do a live action adaptation correctly. It kept the spirit of the original, embraced it’s camp instead of trying to be realistic, and the cast was all pretty fun. It didn’t hit the Manga exactly but it did what it needed to do to work in live action, and I honestly like it better in some places. (I also like the manga better in other places, haven’t watched the anime yet. Waaaaay too long.). Watching this show was what encouraged me to get started on the manga, though.

This is unrelated, but this is the first time I’ve seen a moving thumbnail in Lemmy and it’s pretty cool.

That’s not really how it works, though. For example, who sold I vote for to stop the support for Israel? No one. Or who would I have voted for to stop the war in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2008? No one. There are lots of things a majority of people favor but aren’t on the ballot because the rich determines what issues we can vote on and which ones we can’t.

We have the pretenses of a democracy, but it is scaffolded by money and private interests.

There was a whole industry propped up by the military, church, and schools to kill them and take their land, remove their culture, take away their religion, enslave them, and constantly push them away. It was very much planned.

I kind of want to join Mastadon to help contribute both to the growth of this campaign and the fediverse in general.

Anyone know a good equivalent to lemm.ee instance on Mastadon? General purpose, prioritized federating with everyone over heavy handed moderation (like lemmy.ml or lemmy.world)?

Ya I’ve only been able to cross post on the web UI. I’ve seen apps like Jerboa and Voyager at least show cross posting correctly, I just wish they made it easier to cross-post in app.

Lemmy.world is biased, but in a way that’s harder to see. They’re more liberal and centrist, which isn’t political in the same way being white “isn’t”. It seems like it isn’t because it’s the default of the English speaking West.

But still, ya, lemmy.ml needs to cool it with the bans and heavy handed moderation. I’m glad it’s not the biggest anymore but now I think everything is too much on Lemmy.world. I wish people would split up their accounts and communities on more instances instead of putting it all on one (or two). This and Reddit is a great example of why we shouldn’t be giving the same people power over everything.

Cold war drama is still alive and well. You could see it when people call freaking Bernie, or even more laughably Biden, a communist, or in the fall out of every country in the global south, from Latin America to the Middle East, from propped up divisions of countries in East Asia, to the poor former Soviet block of Eastern European countries looted in the wake of the fall of the USSR. Our present interference in South Korea, Taiwan, Cubs Afghanistan, Yemen, and elsewhere are all relics of that time. The US has never really left the red scare mindset, and the global geopolitics of that era will reverberate for generations to come. It’s why everyone celebrated when Kissinger died.

Still, saying all that commie and socialist stuff, I still think lemmy.ml is too ban happy. I like that they don’t defederate as fast as Lemmy.world, which I think is too eager on that front. But in terms of their posting moderation, I think lemmy.ml is way too heavy handed, and hence I don’t like their moderation style at all. It’s why I made sure not to choose either of those instances despite them being the biggest and most default. I do like having the choice, though, which is one big thing I like about the fediverse. There’s no way to avoid that kind of shit on Reddit. I just wish people would split up the communities among different instances better, though.
