That was because their fees were based on the sale price of the item minus the shipping. So they were only paying fees on 1 cent. They changed the fees so that the total sale including shipping is calculated.

It encourages more consumption
A lot of marketing strategies are pseudoscience. Just like a lot police investigation practices or body language assumptions.
It is kind of a dick move when companies overcharge for shipping. I only charge calculated shipping on large or heavy items because those are the ones that vary a lot and I don’t want someone in zone 8 (like Southern California or even someone in HI buying it and shipping costing more than they paid. If it’s under 1 lb then I just give free shipping and bake it into the price.
I always round way up because sales tax is so high here. 17.99 = $20. I’m usually within the $1 range when I check out.
Pretty normal in the u.s. as well. Usually when there is a large family gathering like a wedding.
Mostly vintage electronics, (PC, cassette decks, VCRs, a laser disc player one time), cassette/Video tapes, I have about 1,000 NOS vacuum tubes I need to go through. I also like to sell car parts, but I don’t go out of my way to look for them. I kind of just like fixing that kind of stuff as a hobby, but don’t really want to be a hoarder. I also find other oddball stuff once in awhile like really rare books or collectibles like vintage toys. It’s all usually stuff that is hard to find so the people buying it are really happy to find it.
If you’re good enough you can compete against real NASCAR drivers. Much cheaper than even the most basic amateur racing such as auto cross.
Me who enjoys reselling as a hobby.
I recently volunteered at a community recycling drive where people could drop off old tvs and broken things. You would not believe the amount of valuable stuff people brought. An old lady had a box with an nes and about 15 games plus a PS1 and who knows what else. I asked her if she wanted to keep it as it’s valuable, she said no. I left it in her trunk.
Next time I’m going to stand a block or so away with a sign asking for old computers and stuff, it’s ridiculous how muxh valuable old tech gets thrown away.
Currently dealing with carpet beetles, more specifically their larvae. They like to eat things like hair and also anything made out of natural fibers. They’re also extremely small. I noticed them when I emptied the laundry basket and after staring at them for a moment realizing that they were bugs, they started moving. I have hardwood floors and I keep finding them. I sweep the floor with a broom into a white dustpan and stare at it and then after 30 seconds or so I see movement. One or two each time, everywhere all over the house. I found a forgotten hair brush under the couch and there was one in there. They’re completely harmless except that they will eat holes in your clothes. They take a long time to go from larvae to flying beetle. They can also survive without eating for 30 days. The original beetle could have just flown in from outside or came in on fresh flowers. They also like women’s underwear because of the pheromones. The eggs must have been in a piece of clothing and then got spread around the house before hatching.
If your instance disappears, then how can you make sure that you could use your same username on an instance that is created after that one disappears?
You could decentralize user accounts so that they aren’t attached to any instance, or at least the account owner can move their account from one instance to another.
I’m gonna say it, Blockchain might actually have a usecase for Lemmy accounts.
Sort by “active” that’s where the most discussion is happening
