You know, it’s not always, but apple does sell things that are price-competitive with similarly performing competing products.

Some iterations of the Mac Mini have been hard to beat with a tiny PC with similar performance.

The M1 MacBooks had some surprisingly cheap options for the relatively premium laptops they were.

Samsung’s Ultra phones tend to cost more or less the same as the Apple Pro Max phones.

The main difference is sometimes just that Apple doesn’t make low-end or low-mid-range, or sometimes not even anything below “relatively high-end”, products in a particular category.

  • It’s possible. But it’s a huge undertaking. If you just wanted to fully understand all of the specifications for HTTP, JavaScript and CSS, it’d take you days before having written a single line of code.

Then you need to write all that in a performant way.

Then you need to keep up with all the new features.

Then you need to keep up with all the new security threats.

Browsers nowadays are practically little operating systems. So the question is not that far off from asking what prevents you from writing an alternative to Windows.

You can. But it’ll cost millions, or maybe billions, to build something good.

  • I do have a few issues with it:

    • the grippy texture underneath is a bit much. It holds on to grime really well and it’s a challenge to clean. I’m not sure we actually needed a grippy texture at all to begin with, but if we did, I wish ease of cleaning had been a bigger concern.
    • the buttons under the controller and L2/R2 buttons are a tad too easy to press by accident.
    • The L2/R2 buttons are not ergonomic enough. I can tell the intent is that I put my indexes on L1/R1 and middle fingers on L2/R2. But it’s uncomfortable to do that due to how much the L2/R2 buttons stick out. My hands just aren’t that big, and even if they were, I just don’t think it’s a very natural position to outstretch both fingers like that. It puts too much strain on the ring and little fingers. So instead I only use my indexes for both triggers. Thankfully games rarely need you to do both at once. I wish L2/R2 were lower instead of trying to be flush with L1/R1.
    • I don’t play car games, so the gradual triggers are nothing but a negative to me. They reduce my effectiveness when parrying in Elden Ring, for instance. I know most people do care about car games though so I don’t know what they could have done about that without worsening reviews…

As a large language model, I do not form friendships, relationships, or any personal connections. My purpose is to process and generate language-based responses based on the input I receive. Engaging in physical confrontations or “fighting” is beyond my capabilities. However, if you’re considering fighting on behalf of a chatbot, it may indicate a need for reevaluation of priorities.

  • You know what happens when I stop visiting Facebook? I don’t learn anything about extended family because they don’t give a shit about me.

You know what happens when you sell not on Marketplace here? You get like 10 clicks a month and you don’t sell.

You know what happens when you message people not on Messenger? You’re the annoying person on the hipster app/sending text messages to a phone number and people don’t talk to you unless talked to first.

Also, good for you if you’re a significant enough friend to be invited personally, but no one invites me anywhere unless I show up in a list of people to invite.

I realize my comment was a bit too generalizing but holy shit dude calm down

  • I think that would be a history/etymology lesson going all the way back to Latin. I haven’t studied Latin, but I think there used to be a lot more grammatical genders, but they were gradually merged into one another in languages with a Latin heritage.

Why the neutral gender got merged into masculine and not feminine is a good question. Maybe it was just because they were the most similar.

The very same happens in French. The use of recently popular gender-neutral structures like “étudiant.e.s” is strongly discouraged in formal writing. The older “étudiant(e)s” less so but still not recommended.

What’s recommended is to either say “étudiants et étudiantes” or just use the masculine form as a group for both masculine and feminine forms, as has been the standard forever, and almost no one bats an eye at.

It’s not TERF, it’s not misogynistic, it’s just to make texts easier to read. It takes more time and effort to read a text full of those extra period/parenthesis characters, for very very little gain.

People wanting to write a text where they consider the sacrifice in readability worth it for the extra emphasis on gender inclusion still can; the police won’t show up. It’s just not standard grammar.

These days Nintendo doesn’t really try to compete on performance. The Wii, for instance, was unapologetically what it was. You played relatively low-poly, low-res, low-texture games on it, but you played them, because they were fun and imaginative.

That’s their main thing. Performance comes, like, 4th.

However, this time, they got burned on their own games. Zelda Tears of the Kingdom had pretty obvious performance issues that even the normiest of normies could notice, for instance. And my memory is short but I think that wasn’t the only first-party game where performance was a challenge.

I think this time they’ll care about performance more than last time. It’s not like they’ve never done it. The really old consoles from the 20th century were competitive on performance, right?
