For sure, it’s not an easy problem to address. But I’m not willing to give up on it just yet. Bad actors will always find a way to break the rules and go under the radar, but we should be making new rules and working to improve these platforms in good faith, with the assumption that most people want healthy communities that follow the rules.
I think by default bots should not be allowed anywhere. But if that’s a bridge too far, then their use should have to be regularly justified and explained to communities. Maybe it should even be a rule that their full code has to be released on a regular basis, so users can review it themselves and be sure nothing fishy is going on. I’m specifically thinking of the Media Bias Fact Checker Bot (I know, I harp on it too much). It’s basically a spammer bot at this point, cluttering up our feeds even when it can’t figure out the source, and providing bad and inaccurate information when it can. And mods refuse to answer for it.
Similar situation going on in Israeli prisons. In case anyone wants to know how detainees are treated, it’s war crimes everywhere you look. This CNN investigation is incredibly upsetting, but very detailed and well-sourced.
Wanting something to be true doesn’t make it so. I played, and I even enjoyed big parts of it (after heavily modding, to be fair). I think it got more hate than it deserved, but in no reality can it be considered a really good game, let alone their best.
Yeah, I agree about the DLC. It was fun, but had a very different vibe from the main story, and yeah it all felt like overkill. As much as it added to the story, I didn’t need the horse armor backstory and the new horse skill-tree. The horse skills could have been useful in the main game, but it felt wasted in the DLC, I barely got to use them. Loved the new map though, it felt so different from the other regions.
I think that’s why the Tsushima map had such an impact on me. It’s one of those games where if you just look around for a few seconds you can quickly tell which part of the world you’re in. It’s all breathtakingly gorgeous, but the details in the vegetation, landscape, and atmosphere are aesthetically varied and blatantly unique. You’re right it’s not particularly realistic, but I think that’s how they managed to make it all feel so big and beautiful. Freaking love that game.

I’ve been waiting for the price to come down a bit, and because I’ve learned my lesson to always wait a while before buying any Star Wars game.
But I’ll definitely buy it eventually, just like I eventually buy every Star Wars game. Wonder if more people are learning the same lessons as me?

Geez just let people play the game however the hell they want. Unless it’s a multiplayer esports title that people compete on, cheating hurts absolutely no one.
Starfield is only playable because of mods, for example. Sometimes us normal people with jobs literally can’t grind resources for days in order to craft that one item. Would these studios rather we not pay $50 for their games? Because that’s my only recourse.

Although the UN has acknowledged its role in the epidemic and the lack of sufficient effort to combat it, it has not explicitly admitted to introducing the disease.
That’s a very cool concept. I’d definitely be willing to participate in a platform that has that kind of trust system baked in, as long as it respected my privacy and couldn’t broadcast how much time I spend on specific things etc. Instance owners would also potentially get access to some incredibly personal and lucrative user data, so protections would have to be strict. But I guess there are a lot of ways to get at positive user engagement in a non-invasive way. I think it could solve a lot of current and potential problems. I wish I was confident the majority of users would be into it, but I’m not so sure.
