Geoff takes some time to explore all some of the reasons the Uzumaki adaptation went so wrong. I didn’t watch the show, but being an outside observer of the community’s reaction has been fascinating. The roller coaster of emotions from episode 1 to episodes 2+ is something that I will remember for some time.

The first episode was really captivating, there’s a scene with a close up of the dad’s face and he moves around a little bit and it looks amazing as the angle changes.

I’d love to get a good Junji Ito adaptation someday but at this point I’m beginning to thing the guy is cursed.

I should read the manga since I’m watching the anime and it’s not too bad.

What exactly were the issues people had? I’m out of the loop and can’t watch the video right now.

The main thing that people noticed was a dramatic drop off in animation quality after the first episode. The video goes into some of the reasons that could have led to this, including reading into statements made by the producer for Adult Swim. tl;dr - looks like David Zaslav rushed the project out the door to cut costs, just like he removed a ton of stuff from HBO/Discovery for tax write-offs.

There are some other issues he brings up as well including pacing issues. However, I haven’t watched the show or read the source to really be able to comment on those.
