  • I’m curious if the system being confusing, annoying, and not notifying you if you made a mistake is enough of an excuse to get out of this. I know I’ve been really frustrated by self-checkout (and hence never use them if I have a choice, unless I’m checking out with like one item), and I’m a pretty intelligent and technologically advanced person. I can see plenty of accidents happening with people walking about without having paid for something. This could add up fairly quickly. Is it still illegal if it’s because of choices the store made?

  • For sure, trying to max out everything is a bad idea. You can always have from FPS and higher resolution, for example. My point is just that “last Gen” doesn’t mean anything. The previous console versions couldn’t max the games out if they had graphics options. The game being older doesn’t mean it doesn’t take advantage of more advanced setting with better hardware.

I think chasing high graphics settings in general is a dumb idea. My favorite games are low fidelity indie games that do interesting things (right now Ostranauts, but also Factorio, Dwarf Fortress, and so many others). The games that max out my hardware are generally worse games. If you’re selling your game based on graphics then you aren’t selling it based on gameplay. I know console players generally seem to care about “realistic” graphics more, but it’s a fool’s errand.

  • Well, as a PC gamer, there’s a bunch of settings you can turn on from “last Gen” games to make them look better. Just because they ran on those machines doesn’t mean you were getting the best version. If you’re playing on console you’re never getting the best version. This newer one can just turn on more settings and a higher resolution and framerate than the previous ones. I wish they’d let players decide what settings they want themselves, but sadly that’s not happening on console anytime soon I don’t think.

  • You don’t have to. You can just use some petroleum derived fertilizer to make up for all the issues you’re causing and ignore them until you die and it’s someone else’s problem. This also creates more CO2 emissions, which is just bonus food for your crops and warmer temperatures. Totally not an issue that needs to be addressed…

You haven’t used very many DEs, have you? Linux can look far prettier than Windows, which gives you no options and you just have to hope what the corporation wants you to have is also what you want. KDE looks fairly similar to Windows 11 out of the box now. You can make it look like any edition of Windows you want, or make it your own too.

I guess you could call it alpha testing, but I’d just call it smart development. They have to make these things anyway, so add the pieces that work into the existing game so you can make more money while you work on the new game. You also get free press and good PR for giving existing owners more stuff. It only makes sense.

(There are some people who will cry “asset reuse” and complain probably, but in what world is doing more with less bad? Reusing stuff you made is smart and good so you can focus on new things.)

Vertical tabs. I have a plugin on Firefox that lists tabs vertically and they’re also stacked so tabs opened in a tab get nested in that tab. I can’t remember the name, but I’ll update this comment with it when at my computer if anyone wants it.

Bookmarks are too permanent. Tabs are for things I’m interested in but don’t really care about (and so I’ll probably never get back to). I use different windows for different types of things, so it’s organized. I just have an alias to kill Firefox when I want to game.
